We’ll provide education and swallowing exercises prior to surgery and/or radiation for head and neck cancer. This will allow the patient to maintain nutrition and swallowing function during and after cancer treatments.
Getting back to the highest diet consistency is key for a strong rehabilitation.
We understand the unique challenges our patients face when undergoing cancer treatment.
If you are diagnosed with head and neck cancer and will be treated with radiation, our oncology-specialized Speech Language Pathologist, will provide skilled training, education, and prophylactic (before radiation) swallowing exercises. This specialized treatment plan is to decrease the risk of dysphagia, aspiration, and also keep you eating at the highest diet level during and after treatment.
Our experienced, oncology-specialized staff will also use both exercise-based therapy, such as MDTP, and/or compensatory strategies as needed if you are having trouble swallowing during and/or after treatment even years later.
